HIDALGO, TX - Tu Holloway set a new season-high with 45 points Saturday night in the Legends' 128-131 loss to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
After a 13-0 start to last night's contest, the Legends faced an immediate deficit in the first quarter and found themselves down 32-40 after 12 minutes. The Vipers grew their lead to 20 midway through the second, but the Legends answered emphatically with a 19-2 run. Holloway knocked down 17 of his 45 points in the second quarter to put the Legends within eight going into the locker room.
After seven straight points early in the third, Holloway sunk a three-ball to give the Legends their first lead of the night two minutes into the half. With 4:46 left in the quarter, Toure' Murry made it a 10-point game, but the Vipers spread the offensive attack and tied it up at the buzzer. Holloway started off the fourth with a three-point play to regain the lead, and the Legends would once again find themselves up by 10 with 5 minutes left in regulation. RGV's Will Cummings responded to the double-digit deficit with an outside shot to set the tone for the final minutes. The two teams exchanged baskets and traded leads in the final minute. Micheal Eric slammed one in with 43 seconds to play, but Rockets' assignee Sam Dekker responded from outside to shut the door on the Legends' attempts.
Holloway shot 50% on the night and added 5 rebounds, 4 assists to his 45-point performance. Jamil Wilson finished with 25 points, and Patrick Miller added 21 and 8 assists. Micheal Eric added the team's only double-double with 11 points, 10 rebounds and recorded 4 blocks.
The Vipers were led by Cummings with 27 points, 6 rebounds, and Jarvis Threatt came off the bench to add 23 points.
The Legends continue their road streak with a trip to the East coast this week, taking on the Reno Bighorns in a double-header Wednesday and Thursday at 9pm CT. Fans can catch all the action live at www.TexLegends.com.
