Hollis Continues Hot Streak, Flying Chanclas Bounce Back Against Cardinals

San Antonio Flying Chanclas' Adam Mazur on the mound

SAN ANTONIO - For the second consecutive night, the Missions took the field representing their Flying Chanclas alter egos. Unlike Thursday night, the Flying Chanclas secured a 3-2 victory on Friday night. Adam Mazur recorded his second win as Graham Pauley legged out two doubles out of the #2 spot in the batting order.
Adam Mazur was the starting pitcher for San Antonio. The right-hander allowed one run on two hits in the top of the first inning. Victor Scott II singled to start the game and Arquimedes Gamboa drew a walk. Scott II was thrown out trying to steal third base. Mazur struck out the next batter for the second out of the frame. Chandler Redmond singled and Gamboa advanced to third base. A fielding error from Graham Pauley allowed Gamboa to score the game's first run.
Connor Lunn was the starting pitcher for the Springfield Cardinals. The right-hander left a runner stranded at third base in the bottom half of the first inning. Ripken Reyes legged out a double to start the frame. He moved to third base on a ground out off the bat of Pauley. Nathan Martorella popped out and Michael De La Cruz grounded out to end the inning.
The Flying Chanclas took the lead in the bottom of the third inning with two runs on four hits. Connor Hollis reached base with a one-out single. After retiring the next batter, Lunn allowed a double to Pauley. Martorella drove in Hollis with a base hit to left field. De La Cruz drove in Pauley with a single to center field. San Antonio took a 2-1 lead.
San Antonio threatened to improve their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Juan Fernandez began the inning with a base hit. Cole Cummings singled to right field. On the play, Fernandez attempted to advance to third, but was thrown out. Homer Bush Jr. lined into a double play to end the inning.
The Chanclas added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Hollis singled and then stole second and third base to begin the frame. Reyes drove him in with a base hit to right-center field. San Antonio improved their lead to 3-1.
Mazur settled in after the first inning and secured his second Double-A victory. The Minnesota native allowed one unearned run on five hits across five innings of work. Along the way, he issued one walk and struck out four batters. Raul Brito took the mound for San Antonio in the sixth inning.
Springfield cut into the deficit in the top of the eighth inning. Scott II singled off Brito to start the frame. After striking out the next batter, Brito walked Noah Mendlinger. Redmond grounded out and both runners advanced into scoring position. Henry Henry took over on the mound and inherited two runners on base with two outs. A wild pitch from the right-hander allowed Scott II to score. The Chanclas held a 3-2 lead.
In the top of the ninth inning, Daniel Camarena took the mound looking to convert the save attempt. Mike Antico laid down a bunt single to start the frame. The southpaw retired the next two batters before giving up an infield single to Jose Alvarez. Camarena got Scott II to pop out to end the game.

Right-hander Jairo Iriarte (0-1, 4.07) is scheduled to pitch for the Flying Chanclas. Right-hander Brandon Komar (4-6, 4.49) is scheduled to pitch for the Cardinals. Saturday's first pitch is slated for 7:05 from Nelson Wolff Stadium.
