Holiday Food Drive to Benefit the Food Bank of the Piedmont

November 22, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Grrrowl News Release

GREENVILLE, S.C. – While the Greenville Grrrowl try to stop the Augusta Lynx on the ice tomorrow (Saturday) night, the team's holiday food drive will help stop hunger in the Upstate. All fans that bring a non-perishable canned food item to the BI-LO Center tomorrow night will receive $2.00 off the price of a ticket to the game against Augusta (7:05 PM, no local radio coverage). Volunteers from Hands on Greenville will be at the game helping collect canned goods.

"It's not an obligation, it's a privilege to be involved with this holiday food drive", said ScheerSports Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Carl Scheer. "The opportunity to give back to this community, which has been so good to us, is an honor."
Special Projects Coordinator at the Community Food Bank of the Piedmont, Teresa Gumino, said, "This effort is very important to us during the holiday's. Our goal is to help eliminate hunger by distributing food and donations to those in need all year long, but the holiday's are obviously a time when this cause becomes more visible. We appreciate what the Grrrowl are doing by helping us raise awareness and food donations."

The Community Food Bank of the Piedmont, which is affiliated with Second Harvest in Chicago, Ill, serves 10 counties in the Upstate.

Saturday's game against the Southeast Division-rival Augusta Lynx is the third game of a 5-game homestand for the defending Kelly Cup Champions. Tickets are available at the BI-LO Center Box Office and all TicketMaster outlets. Help stop hunger with the Greenville Grrrowl!
