Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs went quietly in the final game of the first half of the season, falling 10-4 to Grand Prairie at Haymarket Park. The Airhogs led 10-0 at one point, as the Saltdogs suffered their first-ever four-game sweep at home.

Grand Prairie jumped all over Lincoln starter Brian Campbell (5-3) in the first inning, scoring three runs on four hits. Edwin Maldonado's two-run double started the scoring, and J.B. Tucker added an RBI double of his own. The Airhogs drove Campbell from the mound in the third inning with four straight baserunners to start the frame, including a solo home run from Billy Munoz. Brand-new Saltdogs reliever Dan Knox came on to put out the fire in the third, but Grand Prairie went on to touch him up for five runs in 4 1/3 innings, including a solo homer in the fourth by David Espinosa. The Airhogs came into the series as one of the lighter-hitting teams in the American Association, but slugged ten home runs in four games against Lincoln pitching.

The Lincoln offense, meanwhile, was handcuffed for most of the game by Grand Prairie starter Scot Drucker (4-3). Jonny Kaplan led off the bottom of the first with a single, but Drucker then retired the next 16 Saltdogs he faced, before Corey Harrington singled with one out in the sixth. The Dogs came to life in the seventh and eighth innings, plating two runs on four hits in each frame, but it was too little, too late.

On the night, Eduardo finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Harrington and Curt Miaso also had two-hit games for Lincoln. Dustin Yount, playing left field for the first time this season, went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. On the mound, new Saltdogs reliever Adam White retired all five batters he faced, including one strikeout.

In addition to suffering a four-game sweep at home for the first time in team history, the Saltdogs also saw their losing streak run to five games, their longest since July of 2006. It's also the first four-game sweep by any Lincoln opponent since the Dogs lost four games at Winnipeg in August of 2005.

After taking Monday off, the Saltdogs start the second half of the 2008 season Tuesday night at Sioux City. Ryan Trytten will get the start for Lincoln.

The Saltdogs return home on July 7. For team and ticket information, go to www.saltdogs.com.
