Grand Prairie AirHogs News Release
Lincoln, NE (06.29.08)- J.B. Tucker, Mike Conroy, and Derek Nicholson combined to go 10-for-14 as the Grand Prairie AirHogs swept the Lincoln Saltdogs with a 10-4 victory on Sunday. Grand Prairie (27-21) finished off the first half of the season with a six-game winning streak and won 12 of their final 13 games.
The AirHogs used two doubles in the top of the first inning to take the early 3-0 lead. Edwin Maldonado launched a two-RBI double off the wall in right center to bring in Aaron Garza and Billy Munoz for the first two runs. J.B. Tucker would hit a sharp line drive into right center that Johnny Kaplan dove for, but could not field, allowing Maldonado to race home all the way from second.
Munoz parked a solo shot over the bullpen in right field to start the top of the third inning and give Grand Prairie the 4-0 advantage. With the bases loaded and none away, Mike Conroy grounded into a 4-6-3 double play, allowing Edwin Maldonado to score the AirHog's fifth run.
The AirHogs tallied another run on a solo homer for David Espinosa in the top of the fourth to take the 6-0 lead. As a team, they hit nine homers over their four game series with the Saltdogs.
Grand Prairie put the game out of reach in the top of the fifth with three more runs, going up 9-0. Mike Conroy came up with a an RBI double down the first base line, while Drew Holder had a two RBI single to give the AirHog's their ninth run in five innings.
The Saltdogs tried to rally late, but came up short. They scored four combined runs in the bottom of the seventh and eighth with 10 hits over their last three innings.
Scot Drucker (4-3) started the game and earned the victory for Grand Prairie. He went seven solid innings, allowing two earned runs off of six hits with no walks and a season-high six strikeouts.
Brian Campbell (5-3) pitched poorly in the start for Lincoln and was the losing hurler. He lasted just 2.0 innings and gave up five runs, all earned, off of seven hits with two walks and one strikeout.
The AirHogs will open up the second half on Tuesday back at QuikTrip Park against the El Paso Diablos. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM.
