Hodsdon Shuts Down X's Again

El Paso, TX------The Sioux City Explorers concluded the six-game road trip Sunday shutout by El Paso 8-0. Righthander Scott Hodsdon threw a complete game shutout scattering seven hits in pitching his third complete game of the season, his second complete game against the Explorers.

El Paso scored single runs in the first and second inning to take a 2-0 lead. The Explorers had several opportunities to score as the X's were retired in order in only one inning. Of the ten runners the Explorers left on base, eight of those were left on in scoring position. It was the fourth time this season that the Explorers were shutout. The Explorers finished the Southern Division six-game road trip by winning only one of the six games.

Wally Backman, Jr., with two hits, was the only Sioux City hitter to have more than one hit as he extended his hitting streak to 11 games. Nick Schumacher was the starter and losing pitcher for the X's.

The Explorers will have Monday off before opening up a three-game series at Lewis and Clark Park against Rockland of the Can-Am League. This will be the first time this season that the Explorers have faced a team from the Can-Am League. Game time Tuesday will be 7:05.
