WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts made several transactions on Monday, including the re-signing of first baseman C.J. Ziegler, second baseman Jake Kahaulelio, and right-handed pitcher James Hoyt.
The trio returns after completing their playoff run with the Mexican League's Tabasco Olmecas last week. Ziegler is hitting .333 and was leading the American Association with 13 home runs and 44 RBI at the time of his departure on June 29th. Kahaulelio is hitting .381 with four home runs, 29 RBI, and 39 runs scored in 39 games played. Hoyt did not allow an earned run in his two relief appearances with the Wingnuts in June. Hoyt posted a 2.02 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 13.1 innings for Tabasco.
Wichita also acquried third baseman Wilson Batista from the North American League's Abilene Prairie Dogs in exchange for cash and a player to be named later. Batista hit .309 with 12 home runs and 52 RBI in 73 games for Abilene. A switch hitter, Batista ranked tied for fifth in the North American League in homers and tied for second in RBI. The Cabral Barahona, Dominican Republic native is in his 10th season of professional baseball and reached Triple-A New Orleans in the New York Mets' organization in 2007.
The Wingnuts placed infielder Steve Carrillo on the 7-Day Disabled List. Wichita also released left-handed pitcher Dillon Wilson.
