El Paso Diablos News Release

WICHITA, KS- C.J. Ziegler and David Peralta accounted for six of the Wichita Wingnuts' seven hits and handed Luis Chirinos his first loss as the Diablos fell by a final of 4-2 at Lawrence Dumont Stadium.

Chirinos (3-1) pitched well for the fourth straight start but was undone by a key error, several wild pitches and Ziegler, who homered in his return to the Wingnuts' lineup after a prolonged absence. Chirinos went seven innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits.

The Diablos jumped out to their only lead of the game in the second inning, as Jermy Acey scored on a throwing error made by Wichita. Acey finished the game as the Diablos only player with multiple hits, collecting three in four at-bats.

Wichita tied the game thanks to a Diablos throwing error in the bottom half of the same inning. Reid Fronk's high throw to third on a bunt attempt scored Peralta to tie the score at 1-1.

Ziegler led off the fourth with his 14th home run, and Peralta later scored to make it 3-1 on a wild pitch from Chirinos.

The Diablos got to within one on Acey's RBI single in the eighth, but again the Wingnuts responded as Ziegler drove in Wilson Batista with his third hit of the night.

Josh Dew recorded a perfect ninth for his seventh save.

In the end, the Diablos could not touch Wingnuts starter Derek Blacksher (8-4), who did not give up an earned run over seven innings of five-it baseball in earning his eighth win.

The loss drops the Diablos to 38-40, four and a half games back of first place Grand Prairie. Game two of the series is scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. (6:05 p.m. MST) start on Tuesday.
