Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Calgary, Alta. -- The rosters have been announced for next month's World Under 17 Hockey Challenge in Sarnia, Ontario and the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings will be well represented.

Among the sixty-six players chosen Thursday morning were forwards Nolan Patrick and TannerKaspick as well as defenceman Kale Clague.

Patrick, Clague and Kaspick were Brandon's top three picks in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft, going 4th, 6th and 25th overall.

After leading the Wheat Kings in pre-season scoring in September, the 6'3" 210 lb Patrick has three assists in four games this year.

A 5'11" 180 lb native of Lloydminster, Clague has four assists in four games while Kaspick, a 6' 193 lb Brandon product, has played one game this season after finishing among the Manitoba AAA Midget League scoring leaders with 28 goals and 63 points in 2013-14.

Kaspick's 63 points tied him last season with Patrick, who scored 33 goals and 63 points in 39 games for the Winnipeg AAA Thrashers.

Clague meanwhile had eleven goals and 33 points for the Lloydminster AAA Midget Heat last year.

The tournament will be the first to feature three Canadian national teams. From 1986 to 2014, Canada was represented by five regional teams: Atlantic, Ontario, Pacific, Quebec and West.

The three Canadian teams will be joined by Finland, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden and the United States, with two groups of four teams. All eight teams will qualify for the quarter-finals, with the winners advancing to the semifinals, and losers facing off in placement games.

The 24-game tournament will be centered out of the RBC Centre, home of the OHL's Sarnia Sting, but will also feature games at The Shores Recreation Centre in Lambton Shores, Ont. Those two communities, along with Petrolia, Ont., and Watford, Ont., will host pre-tournament games on Oct. 31.

Clague, Kaspick and Patrick will be back on the ice this afternoon as the Wheat Kings prepare for this weekend's games against Tri-City on Friday and the Red Deer Rebels on Saturday night.

Tickets to both games are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com.
