Kamloops Blazers News Release

The Kamloops Blazers (3-1-1-0) scored two second period goals to win 3-1 over the Swift Current Broncos (2-4-0-0) on Wednesday night on home ice.

The Blazers got a few breaks early in the first period as they were awarded three straight power plays. Cole Ully tallied on the power play on a terrific individual effort sneaking a shot shortside for his fourth goal of the season. Defenseman Nolan Kneen picked up an assist on the goal in the 15-year-olds first WHL game.

The Broncos tied it up about four minutes later on their own power play. Glenn Gawdin finished off a great play sneaking in on the weak side scoring on a pass from Coda Gordon.

For the most part, the Broncos really carried the play in the first period, while the Blazers chased the puck. Bolton Pouliot was solid in goal as the Blazers were outshot 16-6 in the period.

The Blazers came out with a bit of fire in the second period and started to create some offensive chances. Mike Winther put the Blazers in the lead finishing off a rebound off a rush. Rookies Jake Kryski and Jesse Zaharichuk picked up assists on the play.

Matt Needham made it 3-1 with 1:01 to play in the period. He finished off a nice passing play from linemates Cole Ully and Deven Sideroff. The Blazers took the 3-1 lead into the final period.

The Blazers played a controlled final period. They limited the Broncos to only seven shots in the period and went on to win the game 3-1 over the Broncos.

Both teams finished the game 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Broncos outshot the Blazers 34-30.

The Blazers now hit the road for three games in Alberta this weekend. They will be in Lethbridge on Friday night, in Medicine Hat on Saturday and in Edmonton on Sunday.
