Spokane Chiefs News Release
SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs announced today that they have released 20-year-old forward Marcus Messier. Messier, acquired in a trade with the Tri-City Americans last season, scored 5 goals and 6 assists in 34 total games with Spokane.
"Marcus did a great job for our team when he was acquired last season," said Chiefs General Manager Tim Speltz. "He added depth and filled a much needed role due to our injury situation.
"With the acquisition of Calder Brooks, this move was necessary to get down to the WHL-mandated number of three [20-year-old players]. Marcus will go on WHL waivers next week with the hopes of being claimed by another WHL team. We want to thank Marcus for his contribution last season and wish him all the best moving forward."
The roster move brings Spokane to 25 players, including 15 forwards, eight defensemen and two goaltenders.
The Chiefs' next game is a road matchup on Friday, October 3 at Kootenay. They return home on UnitedHealthcare Magnet Schedule Giveaway Night at Spokane Arena as they face the Prince George Cougars on October 4.
Tickets for October 4 and all Chiefs home games are available in-person at the Chiefs' Ticket Office, over the phone at (509) 535-PUCK or (800) 325-SEAT, via TicketsWest outlets and online at www.ticketswest.com.
