
Hitting a Homerun for Autistic Kids

WHAT: The Salt Lake Stingers and Carmen B. Pingree School for Children with Autism are teaming up to raise money for the School at the July 17 Baseball Legend Night game honoring the great Dale Murphy. Murphy - a five-time Gold Glove winner - will join students from the Pingree School on the field for the singing of the National Anthem and the first pitch when the Stingers take on the Edmonton Trappers.
WHY: The Carmen Pingree School received a $20,000 challenge grant from the Gibney Family Foundation, a Vermont-based group supporting programs for special needs children. The Gibney Family Foundation challenge grant will match $1 for every $2 the school raises up to $20,000, from April 1 to September 1, 2004.
For every game ticket the school sells, the Stingers will give them half of the $7.00 ticket price. The school will also be accepting contributions at the game and all the money raised that night will help meet the fundraising challenge.
WHEN: Saturday, July 17, at Franklin Covey Field in Salt Lake City Pre-game activities begin at 5:00 p.m. Baseball game begins at 7:00 p.m.
WHO: Dale Murphy and Pete Nicholas, the Director of the Pingree School will be available for interviews between 5:00 - 5:30 p.m.
