Tucson Cranks Out 11 Runs to Defeat RiverCats 11-3

OF Doug DeVore blasted 2 home runs Thursday, as the Sidewinders took game one of the four game set 11-3. Starting pitcher RHP Edgar Gonzalez (5-5) went 6 strong innings, allowing 3 ER on 7 hits in picking up the win. RHP Joe Blanton (5-6) took the loss as he surrendered 6 runs, 4 of which came in the 1st, in 2.3 innings.

DeVore wasn't the only offensive star of the night for Tucson. The rest of the lineup chipped in with 15 more hits. LF Noochie Varner had a solid night, falling just a homer short of the cycle. CF Julio Ramirez drove in 5 runners with his 3 hits, one via triple. 3B Andy Green, 2B Keoni DeRenne, and SS Jerry Gil also had multi-hit games for the Sidewinders.

For the RiverCats, C Mike Rose hit his 5th home run of the year, a 2-run shot to right in the 4th. 1B Dan Johnson had the only multi-hit game for Sacramento with a 2-hit night in 4 at bats. The loss dropped the RiverCats record to 55-37. Tucson is now 8.5 games behind Sacramento in the Southern Division.

4,083 fans were in attendance for the first game of the home stand. The game was finished in 2:49. Probables for tomorrow night's contest between the RiverCats and Sidewinders feature Sacramento's LHP John Rheinecker (9-4, 4.16) versus Tucson's LHP Michael Gosling (3-4, 5.97). Game time is 7:00 PM.
