Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen extended their season-high winning streak to five games with a 5-2 victory over the Saskatoon Blades on Sunday afternoon at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
The win moves Calgary into second place in the WHL's Central Division, just three points back of the front running Red Deer Rebels.
The Hitmen used a strong start to pave the way to victory, jumping out to a 3-0 first period lead.
Jake Bean and Radel Fazleev powered the offense with three points each. Bean had two goals and an assist while Fazleev collected three helpers. Jakob Stukel, Micheal Zipp and Layne Bensmiller also found the back of the net with Jordy Stallard setting up a pair of goals. Rookie forward Bryce Platt enjoyed a milestone moment recording an assist to pick up his first career Western Hockey League point.
Libor Hajek and Connor Gay responded for the visiting Blades who were outshot 32-25.
Kyle Dumba made 23 saves to record the win, helping the Hitmen sweep their five-game homestand and improve to 14-10-0-1.
Calgary returns to action with a pair of road games, beginning on Tues., Nov. 24 in Prince Albert (6:00 p.m. MT, Sportsnet.ca/960) and wrapping up Wed., Nov. 25 at Saskatoon (6:05 p.m. MT, Sportsnet 960-The Fan).
The next Hitmen home game is Friday, Nov. 27 at 7:00 p.m. MT against the Regina Pats (Sportsnet.ca/960).
