Calgary Hitmen News Release
Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen returned to the win column Sunday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome, defeating the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors 2-1.
Stellar goaltending was the game breaker in tonight's victory, with Ethan Buenaventura earning first star with his 30 save performance. Dax Williams scored his first of the season just over five minutes in to open of the game scoring. Assists included one from Sean Tschigerl, who extended his point streak to eight games. William's tally would be the lone goal of the game until the second half of the third period. Moose Jaw had plenty of power play opportunities through the first and second periods, but Calgary was able to fend of the Moose Jaw attack killing three consecutive.
Carson Westch would find the back of the net at 10:29 in the final frame for his third of the season to give Calgary a two-goal lead. Calgary took a penalty with under five minutes to go, allowing one last push for Moose Jaw who were able to capitalize on the man-advantage with a goal from Denton Mateychuk to cut the lead in half with a 1:17 remaining. Calgary would hold on to the one goal lead, improving to 5-2-1-0 on home ice with the win. Shots finished 50-31 in favour of Calgary.
Calgary has a four-day break before a home-and-home set with Edmonton next weekend. The Oil Kings will visit the Scotiabank Saddledome on Friday, Nov. 10 in a 7:00 p.m. start before Calgary makes the return trip to Edmonton for the rematch the following night on Saturday, Nov. 11.
