Medicine Hat Tigers News Release
Edmonton, AB - Four straight goals proved to be the more than enough as the Medicine Hat Tigers closed out their weekend 3-in-3 with a 5-1 victory over the Edmonton Oil Kings Sunday night.
The first period was a bit of log jam to get going for both the Tigers & Oil Kings. Goaltender Evan May (Nanaimo, BC) would make nine saves giving the Tigers time to get on the right track and captain Tyler MacKenzie (Red Deer, AB) would get his 7th goal in six games to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Cayden Lindstrom (Chetwynd, BC) & Andrew Basha (Calgary would chip in on the assist department at 9:16.
Medicine Hat wouldn't be done in the first as for the second straight game, Bogdans Hodass (Jelgava, LAT) would fire home his 2nd of the season past Oil Kings goaltender Kolby Hay at 14:36. Shane Smith (Cessford, AB) & Hunter St.Martin (Edmonton, AB) would add assists on the goal.
A turn events that ends up benefitting the Tigers as Edmonton thought they had got their first goal of the night. As Smyth Rebman would end up putting a puck past May on an early Edmonton power play. But a high sticking infraction on the goal by Edmonton would lead to a no-goal call after review. Putting the Tigers on the power play for just over three minutes and they'd cash in.
Cayden Lindstrom would get his 14th of the season at 2:48 to add to the Medicine Hat lead. St.Martin & Josh Van Mulligen (Medicine Hat, AB) chipped in on the 7th power play goal of Lindstrom's season.
Right at the end of the second half of the double minor powerplay for the Tigers. Reid Andresen (Saskatoon, SK) would tap home his 5th of the season from Oasiz Wiesblatt (Calgary, AB) & Basha exactly at 4:48.
Despite the lead, Edmonton would get opportunities to get in on the scoring but a kill on a 5-on-3 and timely goaltending by Evan May would keep the Tigers lead 4-0 heading to the third.
In the third despite some excellent penalty killing and goaltending again by Evan May, an unfortunate own goal would lead to the Oil Kings breaking Evan May's shutout bid at exactly the 11:00 mark of the third as Roan Woodward would be credited with the lone mark for the Oil Kings on this night. But the Tigers would come back immediately 56 seconds later as Oasiz Wiesblatt would wrist home his 4th goal of the campaign and second goal of the weekend to make it 5-1.
Medicine Hat would take the second game of the season series with Edmonton by that very 5-1 score and move to 11-5-2 on the season and sit atop the Central Division.
Next up for the Tigers, a road game in Moose Jaw on November 10, followed by a return to Co-op Place on November 11th when they welcome the newest franchise in the WHL the Wenatchee Wild.
