Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen closed out the weekend in Medicine Hat for a 4:00 pm matchup with the Tigers. An outstanding performance from netminder Ethan Buenaventura propelled Calgary to a 2-0 victory over Medicine Hat.
The game would remain at a deadlock in the first, with Buenaventura working towards his first career shutout making two break away saves. The second period saw Oliver Tulk extend his goal scoring streak to three games with the opening tally in the contest. With momentum off two big penalty kills, Calgary was able to extend the lead courtesy of Carson Wetsch for his 21st of the season. Calgary has now killed off 13 straight penalties. Pulling their goalie with 3:49 remaining, Medicine Hat would make one last push, but Calgary would hold on to the lead, picking up a critical two points in the playoff race.
Ethan Buenaventura made 32 saves for his first career shutout earning him first star. Calgary now sits three points behind the Lethbridge Hurricanes for the final playoff spot in the Eastern conference with eight games remaining in the regular season.
Calgary returns home to Scotiabank Saddledome to welcome the Brandon Wheat Kings on Wednesday, Mar. 6. Game time is 7:00 p.m. The Hitmen will then face Red Deer in a home-and-home set starting Friday, Mar. 8 for Dungeon Wresting at the 'Dome. Game time is 7:00 p.m. with feature wrestling matches during the intermissions.
