Hitmen Shut-Out Tigers

March 3, 2024 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Medicine Hat Tigers News Release

Medicine Hat, AB - For first time all season, the Medicine Hat Tigers would not be able to solve an opposing goaltender as they fell 2-0 Sunday afternoon at home to the Calgary Hitmen.

It would be a back-and-forth affair in the first period with both Calgary and Medicine Hat but both goaltenders in Zach Zahara (Rockyview, AB) & Ethan Buenaventura would run a clean sheet in the first. The Tigers fired 14 pucks towards the Calgary net while the Hitmen responded with 10 shots for a scoreless 1st.

Into the second period the Tigers continued to push the pace in the middle frame but could not solve Ethan Buenaventura with 13 shots in the period. Calgary would respond with two tallies in the period as Oliver Tulk would snap his 35th past Zahara at 5:53 and with 27.1 seconds left in the period. Carson Wetsch would win a net front battle and bang in his 21st of the season to give the Tigers a 2-0 deficit heading to the 3rd period.

It was a defensive battle in the third with both teams not giving much in opportunities and Calgary would hang on for a 2-0 win.

Buenaventura would make 32 saves for the shut-out and Zach Zahara would make 21 stops in the loss.

With the defeat the Tigers drop their record to 34-19-5-2. Still tops in the Central Division.

Next up for Medicine Hat, a home tilt with the Brandon Wheat Kings on Tuesday night.
