Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen were back at home for a Friday night game, welcoming the Brandon Wheat Kings to the Scotiabank Saddledome for the first time this season. Netminder Alex Garrett recorded his first career shutout in an 8-0 victory over the visiting team.
Ben Kindel opened the scoring for the second straight game, which would ultimately be the game winner in the contest. The goal opened up the flood gates with Tyson Greenway, Ethan Moore and Maxim Muranov all netting goals in the first period to make it 4-0. The second period slowed down with Calgary finding themselves on the penalty kill four times. Ben Kindel would be the lone scorer of the period, netting his second of the game on the power play. Calgary would reignite the offensive once again in the third, finding the back of the net three more times. Muranov scored his second of the game shorthanded on a breakaway to make it 6-0. Oliver Tulk would follow up with his 25th of the season. Carson Westch finished off the scoring with under three minutes to go off a feed from Brandon Gorzynski making the final score 8-0.
The game saw point production from 13 different Hitmen players, as well as multi point games from seven. Multiple Hitmen extended their point streaks including Ethan Moore (1g,1a) who extended his to 14 games, Maxim Muranov (2g, 1a) to 12 games, and David Adaszysnki (1a) extended his point streak to a career high eight games. Alex Garrett earned first star with his 33 save shutout performance. Calgary now moves above .500 on the season, sitting tied with the Prince Albert Raiders for the final playoff spot with three games in hand.
Calgary is back at the Scotiabank Saddledome Sunday, Jan. 28 to welcome the Regina Pats for a 2:00 p.m. start. The date with the Pats is not only another Sunday Funday presented by Brookfield Residential but also RE/MAX presents Nickelodeon Day in support of the Children's Miracle Network. Calgary will wear special Paw Patrol theme jerseys that will be auctioned off for charity. There will also be free giveaways of 1,000 co-branded Hitmen/Paw Patrol posters and 1,000 RE/MAX mini sticks to the first fans in the building when doors open at 1:00 p.m. in addition to puppies on the concourse.
