Spokane Chiefs News Release
Spokane, Wash. - The Chiefs returned to the Spokane Arena on Friday night, racking up an impressive 4-3 victory over the high-powered Prince George Cougars in front of over 5,800 rowdy hockey fans.
Berkly Catton announced his return from the Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in quick fashion, finding the net just over a minute into tonight's contest.
An awkward deflection off a Bonni shot bounced through the Cougars' goaltender before Catton poked it home for good measure. Chase Bertholet also earned an assist, his first point of the night.
Heidt would answer with a goal for Prince George at exactly halfway through the period, making it 1-1.
Berkly Catton reclaimed the lead for Spokane with his second goal of the night and 30th of the season at 16:41.
The first frame would close with the Chiefs ahead 2-1, recording 15 shots to 11 for Prince George.
Parascak tallied his 28th of the season to tie the game once more for the Cougars early in the second.
The Chiefs' third goal was a special one. Swedish import Rasmus Ekström blasted the power play goal from the right circle with his parents watching on after traveling to Spokane all the way from Stockholm, Sweden.
Feist provided a helper with Bertholet adding his second assist of the game. Rasmus turned provider on Spokane's fourth and game winning goal from newest Chief, Shea Van Olm.
For Van Olm it was his third goal since being traded to Spokane earlier this month, and his first on his new home ice. Crampton had an assist on the play as well.
Prince George would add a third from Hunter Laing but the Chiefs held on strong to pull out the 4-3 victory. Spokane pushed for the fifth goal with 20 shots on goal in the third, counting 43 shots to just 28 for the Cougars across the game.
Michaluk recorded 25 saves in net and the Chiefs defense blanked a top-five power play in the WHL, going 4/4 on the penalty kill.
Spokane will return to the Arena tomorrow for the annual Military Appreciation Night presented by Pizza Factory. The Chiefs will be wearing specialty jerseys that will be auctioned off throughout the game, raising funds for the Washington Fallen Heroes Project. The team will also be playing with specialty pucks, military and veteran groups will be on the concourse, and rappelers will be delivering the ceremonial first pucks from the arena rafters. Doors open at 5 PM puck drop at 6:05 PM.
