Keep It Rollin'
Fresh off a business-like 3-2 win in Kennewick over the struggling but always dangerous Tri-City Americans last night, the Winterhawks face another tough out in Spokane this evening. The Chiefs' record may not seem threatening, but they have won three of their last four and any opponent taking this team lightly will get burned - just ask Prince George, who dropped a 4-3 decision last night.
The Winterhawks themselves have already hit speed bumps against Spokane this year, falling in their first and most recent of four meetings to own a split in the season series thus far. Their last trip to Spokane marked one of the team's more entertaining wins, as some late rallies and a herculean shift in overtime brought two points back to the Rose City.

The line of Berkly Catton, Conner Roulette and Chase Bertholet continues to pace the Chiefs' attack, while newcomer Shea Van Olm is making an early impact after arriving from Kamloops. Dawson Cowan and Cooper Michaluk have shared the crease, but Cowan has picked up both of Spokane's wins over Portland this season. It's a talented opponent from top-to-bottom, but the Winterhawks can lean on their depth to come out on top through 60 minutes or more.

Top-10 Cags
Luca Cagnoni continues to enjoy a remarkable season, and now he's cementing his place in Winterhawks history. Two more assists last night have vaulted him into the top 10 in scoring among all-time Winterhawks defensemen, putting him beside some incredible names in hockey history.
W/ 2 assists tonight, Luca Cagnoni is now 10th for dmen in @pdxwinterhawks franchise history:
1 - G. Wesley 175
2 - J. Benning 171
3 - B. Smith 171
4 - D. Pouliot 163
5 - J. Finley 156
6 - T. Rutkowski 155
7 - K. Haupt 153
8 - A. Ference 141
9 - K. Brown 138
10 - L. Cagnoni 124
- Andy Kemper (@AndyKemper) January 27, 2024
After going undrafted into the WHL, Cagnoni earned a fourth-round selection by San Jose at last year's NHL Draft and continues to improve on a nightly basis, showcasing a first-round pedigree on the Hawks' blue line. He co-leads all WHL defensemen in scoring with 56 points while logging heavy minutes in all situations as a key player in Portland's defense corps. It's just the beginning for the kid from Burnaby, and we can't wait to see where he goes from here. Way to go, Cags!
