Hitmen Rally to OT Win over Medicine Hat

Medicine Hat, AB - The Calgary Hitmen extended their winning streak to six games in dramatic fashion defeating the Medicine Hat Tigers 6-5 in overtime on Wednesday night at Canalta Centre.

Trailing 5-4 late in the third period, James Malm forced extra time for Calgary counting his second goal of the game with 3:52 remaining. Vladislav Yeryomenko then netted the game winner, tapping home a rebound 3:41 into sudden death.

Carson Focht was once again a major part of the victory, netting three goals and an assist. He now has 10 goals in his last five games and 20 points (10g, 10a) in his last seven outings.

The Tigers, who trailed 4-1 after the opening period, received a pair of markers from Ryan Jevne and singles from Ryan Chyzowski, Corson Hopwo and Trevor Longo.

Jack McNaughton picked up the win in the Calgary net making 37 saves on a night the two teams combined for 72 shots on goal including 42 from Medicine Hat.

The Hitmen not only won the game but also the special teams battle going 3-4 on the power play with the Tigers 1-4 with the extra attacker.

Calgary, four points behind the Central Division co-leaders in Edmonton and Lethbridge, will return to the Scotiabank Saddledome on Friday, Mar. 8 to host the Oil Kings in the environmental initiative called One Ticket, One Tree. For each game day and group ticket sold, the Hitmen will plant a tree for reforestation projects in the province. Game time is 7:00 p.m.

The following night on Saturday, Mar. 9, the Hitmen will wrap up their season series with the Hurricanes in Lethbridge.
