Hitmen Honour 2014-15 Award Recipients
March 22, 2015 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Calgary Hitmen News Release
Calgary, AB - Today the Calgary Hitmen honoured their best during a special pre-game ceremony at the Scotiabank Saddledome, marking the first-ever on-ice team awards celebration.
The recipient of two awards, including the prestigious Player of the Year award, was New York Rangers prospect Adam Tambellini. The 20-year-old forward entered the last game of the regular season ranked fourth in the WHL in goals (47) and leading the Hitmen with 86 points. Past recipients of this notable award include Kenton Helgesen, Cody Sylvester and Ryan Getzlaf.
The pre-game ceremony also recognized the Hitmen billet families and honoured Ralph Zander, an off-ice official and billet parent, for his 20 years of service by presenting him with the WHL Distinguished Service award. Zander has been with the Hitmen since the franchise arrived in Calgary in advance of the 1995-96 WHL season. Throughout the years with the Hitmen, Zander and his wife, Karen, have played host to over 25 Hitmen players, most recently Taylor and Travis Sanheim.
