Hitmen Hold off Tigers

Calgary, AB - Defenceman Jackson van de Leest netted a pair of goals, including the game winner into an empty net, as the Calgary Hitmen skated to a 5-4 victory over the Medicine Hat Tigers on Sunday night at Seven Chiefs Sportsplex on Tsuut'ina Nation.

It was the Tigers who opened the scoring before Calgary responded with three unanswered markers to build period leads of 3-1 and 4-2.

Cael Zimmerman finished with goal and an assist for the Hitmen with Riley Fiddler-Schultz and Blake Allan also adding singles.

Ryan Chyzowski, Nick McCarry, Oasiz Wiesblatt and Brett Kemp replied for the Tigers who grabbed four of a possible six points from Calgary in the three-game weekend set.

Both teams finished with 41 shots on goal as Brayden Peters made 37 saves to pick up his second win of the young season while Washington Capitals prospect Garin Bjorklund turned aside 36 shots for Medicine Hat.

Calgary, now 2-2-1-0 will prepare to face the Lethbridge Hurricanes for a trio of games next weekend while the 4-3 Tigers receive the Central Division bye.
