Hitmen Game Notes: March 21 Vs. Moose Jaw Warriors

HITMEN HEADLINES: The Calgary Hitmen closed out the 2007-08 Western Hockey League Regular Season with a 6-1 win at home against the Kootenay Ice last Sunday. The Ice led 1-0 in the first period and the Hitmen came back with six unanswered goals in the second and third periods. Ian Schultz led the team with 3 points (2g 1a). Brandon Kozun, Brock Nixon, Kyle Bortis and Brett Sonne all had a goal each. Martin Jones made 25 saves for his 18th win of the regular season. The Hitmen fired 44 shots at Ice goaltenders Kris Lazaruk and Thomas Heemskerk. Calgary went 3-10 with the powerplay while Kootenay was 0-3.

VS. MOOSE JAW: Calgary won the season series 4-1 having outscored Moose Jaw by a combined 19-13.

-Sept. 29 at Moose Jaw; Hitmen 3 Warriors 2 OT. Brett Sonne scores game winner.

-Nov. 9 in Calgary; Hitmen 3 Warriors 2. Ryan White two goals.

-Nov. 16 in Moose Jaw; Hitmen 6 Warriors 1. Michael Stone three assists.

-Dec. 8 in Calgary; Warriors 3 Hitmen 1. Warriors overcame a 1-0 second period deficit. Jordan Knackstedt 2g 1a.

-Feb. 29 in Moose Jaw; Hitmen 6 Warriors 5 SOW. Michael Stone scores shootout winner.

PLAYOFF HISTORY: This is the third playoff meeting between the Hitmen and Warriors. In 2000 Calgary swept Moose Jaw in the opening round. In 2006 the Warriors ousted the Hitmen in seven games to win their second round match up.

CAREER WATCH: Ryan White has the most career playoff points by an active Hitmen player with 24 (11g13a). Karl Alzner is second with 20 points (2g12a).

PLAYOFF RECORD: Calgary has a lifetime playoff record of 66-54 for a winning percentage of 0.550. The Hitmen have competed in 22 series prior to this year and have won 13 and lost nine.

GAME 1 FACTS: The Hitmen are 14-8 all-time in Game One's. Calgary is 2-0 vs. Moose Jaw in series openers with both games being played at the ‘Dome.

NHL RADAR: Calgary Hitmen Ian Schultz, Michael Stone and Martin Jones have all made NHL Central Scouting's mid-season rankings for the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Stone is ranked 51st among North American Skaters while Schultz is 94th. Jones is ranked 12th among North American Goaltenders.
