Santorelli Makes History winning Bob Clarke Trophy

Chilliwack BC - Chilliwack Bruins forward Mark Santorelli captured the Bob Clarke trophy as the WHL's leading scorer with two goals in last night's game in Vancouver. His two goals give Santorelli 101 points on the season, which edges out Kelowna Rockets' forward Colin Long, who finished the season with 100 points.

Santorelli, from Burnaby BC, becomes the first player from a second year franchise to capture the WHL scoring title. The previous best for a player on a new franchise was Zach Hamill of the Everett Silvertips in the Everett's fourth year and Pavel Brendl of the Calgary Hitmen in Calgary's fourth season.

Mark Santorelli has just completed his second regular season with the Chilliwack Bruins. Santorelli is the only Bruin to have played in every game (144 regular season, five playoffs) in club history. Santorelli's 183 points in the past two regular seasons is the most points amassed by any player in the WHL over the same period. Santorelli was drafted in the 4th round of the 2007 NHL Draft by the Nashville Predators.

Pighin Wins WHL Player of the Week

CALGARY, AB. - The BOSTON PIZZA WHL Player of the Week is forward Evan Pighin of the Chilliwack Bruins. Pighin, a 19 year old from Vancouver, British Columbia, is currently in his second season of play in the Western Hockey League. Pighin has established career highs this season, scoring 22 goals and 26 assists for 48 points in 53 games.

Chilliwack BC - Chilliwack Bruins defenseman Nick Holden closed out the 2007-08 season with 22 goals, which led the WHL for goal scoring by defenseman. Holden, a 20 year old from St. Albert, AB, finished third overall in WHL defensive scoring with 60 points (22-38-60) this season. Holden nearly doubled his offensive totals from the previous season (31 last year, 60 this season) and saw his +/- change this year from a -8 last season to a +5 this season, while being assigned to shut down all of the top players in the WHL.
