Hitmen Defenceman Egor Zamula to Play in 2019 CIBC Canada Russia Series
October 23, 2019 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Calgary Hitmen News Release
Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club would like to congratulate defenceman Egor Zamula (pronounced Yay-gor Zuh-MOO-la) on being named to Team Russia for the two-game WHL stop of the 2019 CIBC Canada Russia Series.
Zamula is off to a fast start with a point in all nine games this season to sit tied for the team lead in scoring. His 13 points (4g, 13a) tops all WHL blueliners while his +15 plus/minus rating is a league best. The Chelyabinsk, RU product is coming off a breakout 2018-19 campaign, more than tripling his point total to finish as the seventh highest scoring defenceman in the WHL with 56 points (10g, 46a) in 61 games. That also earned him the Speedpro Signs Calgary NE Top Defenceman Award.
The 19-year-old Philadelphia Flyers prospect is in his third WHL season after being claimed by Calgary off WHL Import Waivers from Regina on January 9, 2018. He signed a three-year entry level contract with the Flyers last September following an invite to rookie and main training camp on an ATO (Amateur Try-Out).
Zamula will join fellow Hitmen teammates Carson Focht and Jett Woo in the series with both players named to Team WHL last week.
The 2019 CIBC Canada Russia series opens next month with games in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and Ontario Hockey League before closing with a pair of games in the WHL; in Saskatoon on Wednesday, Nov. 13, and in Prince Albert on Thursday, Nov. 14.
Next up for the 6-2-1-0 Hitmen, a road trip to Saskatchewan with stops in Moose Jaw on Friday, Oct. 25 and Regina on Sunday, Oct. 27. Sunday is the Prairie Classic outdoors at Mosiac Stadium.
Calgary is back at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Monday, Oct. 28 for a 6:00 p.m. start against Seattle. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. with kids invited to dress in their Halloween costumes and trick-or-treat on the concourse at marked concessions. It's also Wizarding Night as fans are encouraged to wear their best wizard inspired costumes, try butter brew and take photos on platform 9 þ.
