Hitmen Can't Hold Leads, Fall in OT

Calgary, AB - Oleg Zaytsev scored 31 seconds into overtime to lift the Red Deer Rebels past the Calgary Hitmen 6-5 on Sunday at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

The Rebels, aided by a 44 save performance from goaltender Ethan Anders, erased deficits of 1-0, 2-1, 4-2 and 5-3 to produce the victory.

Jeff de Wit and Reese Johnson both netted a pair of goals for Red Deer while Johnson's second marker forced the extra session with 1:29 remaining. Brandon Hagel rounded out the scoring for the visitors with defenceman Dawson Barteaux recording a team-leading four assists.

Mark Kastelic scored twice for Calgary with Josh Prokop, Zach Huber and Carson Focht adding singles. For Prokop, it was his first-career Western Hockey League goal.

Calgary outshot Red Deer 49-30 but went 0-4 on the power play. The Rebels were 2-6 with the extra attacker.

The Hitmen are back in the Scotiabank Saddledome on Friday, October 5 against the Saskatoon Blades before hosting the Prince Albert Raiders on Thanksgiving Monday, October 8 in a 2:00 p.m. start.

The 2018-19 Hitmen Hockey Pass is still available and includes 34 game tickets to be used anytime, in any combination. Pass holders also receive a $50 Scotiabank Saddledome gift card and a complimentary ticket to a select Flames, Roughnecks or Stampeders game. Passes start at less than $7 per ticket for kids and under $15 for adults.
