Medicine Hat Tigers News Release
Medicine Hat, AB - The Medicine Hat Tigers came up short in the tenth round of the shootout to fall 4-3 to the Saskatoon Blades.
Tigers 2018 first-round CHL Import Draft pick, Mads Sogaard, made 39 saves on 42 shots faced in his Western Hockey League debut.
Captain James Hamblin earned three points (2G, 1A) in tonight's contest to earn himself the second star of the game.
Hamblin's first goal of the night came when he fired the puck in from a difficult angle to light the lamp early in the first period.
Blades forward Chase Wouters responded for his team midway through the period. However, Hamblin forced a turnover and fired the puck top corner, stick side on Nolan Maier just over a minute later to regain the lead.
After a scoreless second period, the Blades forward Kristian Roykas Marthinsen scored to tie the game up at 2 apiece early in the final frame.
During the Tigers' third power play of the night, Hamblin combined with Ryan Chyzowski to set up Hayden Ostir up for his first goal of the season.
Late in the final stanza, Blades forward Max Gerlach scored to force overtime.
While both teams had their chances in overtime, neither were able to capitalize and the game went into ten rounds of a shootout before Riley McKay scored the winner for the Blades.
The Orange and Black are now 1-2-0-1 and will return home to the Canalta Centre to host the Prince Albert Raiders. The game starts at 7:00 PM.
