Hinojosa and Connolly Lead Volcanoes to Victory

The Volcanoes were welcomed to Avista Stadium by 4,122 fans and triple-digit temperatures in a 6-1 series-opening win over the Spokane Indians on Wednesday night.

Starter Mike Connolly (3-1, 3.18 ERA) provided Salem-Keizer with a quality start going five innings allowing one run. Connolly received six runs of support in the 6-1 victory over the Spokane Indians.

Spokane scored its only run on an RBI single by Leon Byrd in the fifth. Indians starter Cole Wiper (0-4, 4.97 ERA) made it through four innings and gave up four runs on the way to the loss.

C.J. Hinojosa continues to boost the Volcanoes offense as he hit his third home run in three nights. Hinojosa finished the night going 2-for-5 with a double, three RBI and a two-run home run. Scott Price also had a great night at the plate going 4-for-4 with three singles, a double and an RBI.

Tomorrow the two teams will meet for game two of the five-game series. Andy Suarez (0-0, 1.88 ERA) and Emerson Martinez (4-3, 5.06 ERA) will be the starters with the first pitch slated for 6:30 p.m. in Spokane.

In his last outing Suarez pitched four innings giving up one run in what was a 9-2 victory for the Volcanoes over the Eugene Emeralds.

Martinez will get his eighth start of the season tomorrow. The Indians starter last appeared as a reliever in a 5-1 loss to the Vancouver Canadians.

The Volcanoes and Indians are now tied at 93 wins each in the all-time series.
