Eugene Emeralds News Release
EUGENE, OR - This weekend the Eugene Emeralds will wear two specialty themed jerseys to help celebrate both Springfield Night and Civic Stadium. Fans should be sure to come out to PK Park for the chance to bid on the player-worn uniforms during the game and take one home!
On Saturday, August 15, the Eugene Emeralds will become the Springfield Emeralds for one night in honor of their neighbors to the East. The Emeralds will wear special jerseys presented by Springfield Utility Board that are inspired by a well-known local cartoon family that may or may not live in a city based on Springfield. Yeardley Smith, voice of Lisa Simpson, will be throwing out a first pitch before the game. She will also be available for autographs during the game. All proceeds raised through the jersey sales will benefit Project Share. Project Share is a community program that provides heating bill assistance to eligible Lane County families to keep the heat on during cold winter months. Springfield Night is presented by the City of Springfield.
On the following day, Sunday, August 16, the Emeralds will honor their former ballpark by wearing special Civic Stadium jerseys during the final game of the homestand. The team, and town, created 40 years of memories at Civic Stadium during the Emeralds' time at the historic ball park. Fans will be able to bid on the one-of-a-kind uniforms during the game, with proceeds benefitting the Eugene Civic Alliance. The nonprofit group purchased Civic Stadium and the surrounding property earlier this year.
This year the Eugene Emeralds proudly celebrate their 60th Anniversary. Since 1955, over 300 Emeralds alumni have made it to the Big Leagues. Our rich history includes players like Mike Schmidt, Bob Boone, Tom Gordon, Eric Davis and most recently 2014 AL Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber. For the 2015 season, the Emeralds have made a major affiliation change by signing with the Chicago Cubs. Season tickets, mini plans and group tickets for 2015 can be purchased at www.EmeraldsBaseball.com, by phone 541-342-5367 and in person by visiting the Emeralds Box Office located next to PK Park. Individual game tickets are on sale now.
