Idaho Steelheads News Release

(Boise, ID) - Another night, another one-goal contest for the Idaho Steelheads as Bryan Hince stopped 22 of 23 Stockton Thunder shots Friday night in a 2-1 victory in front of 4,612 fans in Boise.

Idaho (30-32-9, 69 points) has now played nine one-goal contests in its last eleven games.

The Steelheads struck first at the 4:25 mark of the first period. Olivier Roy stuffed Aaron Lewicki's initial forehand shot, but Lewicki was able to deflect the rebound out to the high slot to teammate Derek Matheson. Matheson, a defenseman by trade who played forward on Friday, ripped a one-timer past Roy stick-side to give Idaho a 1-0 lead. It was Matheson's third goal of the season. Hince kept Idaho on top by a goal with a fabulous save on a Matt Reber shot from the slot later in the first and Roy kept the lead at just one with multiple fine saves on Idaho shooters.

Joe Pereira added to Idaho's lead in the early stages of the second period. Circling from the left-hand corner toward the right-hand circle, Pereira back-handed a puck through the crease. The puck hit Stockton's Jason Morgan in the skate and bounced past Roy at the 6:37 mark to give Idaho a two-goal lead. The tally gave Pereira six tallies on the season, but it was his first as a Steelhead after being acquired last week from South Carolina.

Stockton crept closer right away in the final period on a fortunate bounce as a Jesse Fratkin centering pass bounced off a sliding Jordan Fulton past Hince to make it 2-1 Idaho less than a minute into the third period.

After that, though, Hince and the Steelheads stood tall. Hince stopped the remaining ten shots he faced in the final period to finish the victory for Idaho in his first start since February 19. Hince has now made 29 appearances this season with Idaho, Greenville (ECHL) and Knoxville (SPHL) and has a 23-2 record along the way.

Roy was strong in net for Stockton despite the loss, stopping 34 of 36 Idaho shots. There was only one penalty whistled in the game, a second-period tripping infraction against Stockton, so Idaho was 0-1 on the power play and Stockton did not have a man-advantage on the evening.

Idaho wraps up the regular season on Saturday against Stockton. Tickets are available by calling the CenturyLink Arena box office (208.331.TIXS) or by logging on to www.idahosteelheads.com. Fans who purchase a walk-up ticket in the P1 or P2 price levels to Saturday's game will get a free P4 ticket to Idaho's first playoff game, which will be played either Monday or Tuesday at CenturyLink Arena in Boise.
