The Gwinnett Gladiators signed former University of North Dakota forward Mario Lamoureux on Friday. In 148 career games at UND spread over four seasons, Lamoureux scored 17 goals and added 29 assists to go along with 228 penalty minutes.

Lamoureux, 23, was a WCHA All-Academic selection in each of the past two seasons and served as team captain at UND this season. He scored the 10,000th goal in the history of the Fighting Sioux program earlier this season against Bemidji State, and potted two third period goals to spark a comeback win over Minnesota in the semifinals of the conference tournament.

North Dakota was 14-1 all-time when the Grand Forks, ND native scored, with the only defeat coming on March 25th to Minnesota in the NCAA West Regional.

Prior to his time at North Dakota Lamoureux spent four years in juniors with the Tri-City Storm (USHL), where he finished as the franchise's all-time leading scorer with 129 points in 236 games.

Lamoureux's family has strong ties to the North Dakota program. His father won two NCAA Championships as a goaltender at UND from 1979-82, and his mother was a swimmer at the school. He also has two sisters that won silver medals with the US Olympic hockey team in 2010 that play at UND. He also has three brothers: Jean-Philippe split last season as a goaltender between Abbotsford (AHL) and Utah (ECHL), Jacques was a Hobey Baker Award finalist in 2008-09 at Air Force, and Pierre-Paul is an Assistant Video Coordinator at UND.

The Gladiators are the ECHL Affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres and the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League and are members of the ECHL, the Premier "AA" Hockey League and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
