Winston-Salem Dash News Release

Lynchburg, VA - Winston-Salem's struggles at the plate continued as Lynchburg defeated the Dash 5-1 in the opener of a doubleheader on Friday night at City Stadium. It was the seventh time in the last 12 games that Winston-Salem has scored one run or less. The nightcap was postponed due to lightening and will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Sunday at 5 p.m. with a pair of seven-inning contests.

In the opener, the Dash plated the first and their lone run against Jeff Locke in the top of the third inning. Dale Mollenhauer lined a one-out double and stole third base. Greg Paiml followed with an RBI ground out to give Winston-Salem a 1-0 lead.

Lynchburg threatened in the bottom of the inning when Alex Presley and Jose De Los Santos led off with back-to-back singles off Winston-Salem starting pitcher Miguel Socolovich. Chase d'Arnaud followed and with a 1-2 count, a heavy downpour ensued which initiated a 49 minute delay. Once play resumed, d'Arnaud lined the first pitch from Socolovich into center field for an RBI single that evened the score at one. On the very next pitch, Josh Harrison lifted an RBI sacrifice fly to put the Hillcats in front 2-1.

Harrison, who finished 2-for-3 with three RBI, came through with another big hit in the fourth inning when he delivered a two-out, bases-loaded single that scored a pair of runs and gave Lynchburg a 4-1 lead. Socolovich (3-2), who was making just his second start of the season, was lifted from the game following the hit as he surrendered four runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings to suffer the loss.

The Hillcats tacked on a run in the fifth inning as Kent Sakamoto registered a two-out RBI single off Nate Jones. The run support was more than enough for Locke (4-8), who lasted five innings and held the Dash to one run on four hits to earn his fourth win in his 24th start of the season.

The Dash and Hillcats square off in game two of this four-game series on Saturday night at City Stadium. Winston-Salem will send RHP Jacob Rasner (3-5, 4.49) to the mound, while Lynchburg will counter with LHP Justin Wilson (6-7, 4.50). The first pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.

The Dash returns to Wake Forest Baseball Park on Friday, August 28 when they host a three-game series against the Lynchburg Hillcats. The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. For more information on all the upcoming promotions or to purchase single-game tickets, visit www.wsdash.com or by call the Dash office at (336) 714-2287.
