Lynchburg won 4-3 last night in the rubber-match of their three-game series at Salem....Those three road games were sandwiched in between 17 games at Calvin Falwell Field...Tonight they play the first two games of a four-game series with Winston-Salem and begin an eight-game homestand...Game two is a make-up contest for a game that was rained out on July 5th at City Stadium...
VS. WINSTON-SALEM: This season the Hillcats have a 8-5 record against the Dash and are 4-2 at home...Lynchburg holds the all-time advantage in the series with Winston-Salem 151-140, and they are 94-63 in the Hill City...The Cats and the Dash were both first half champions and have secured a spot in the 2009 Carolina League playoffs...This series completes a stretch of six out of nine games against Winston-Salem...
SOUTHERN FOES: This series against Winston-Salem is the last of six series in a row (20 games) against a Southern Division opponent for Lynchburg...Thus far they are 8-8 over this time and they are 39-30 versus the division on the year...Prior to this current string of games against the South, the Cats played four straight series (13 games) against the Northern Division...
IN THE BAG: With their win last night the Hillcats improved to 51-2 when leading after eight innings this season...RHP Ronald Uviedo picked up his second save in two relief appearances this season last night...RHP R.J. Rodriguez notched his Carolina League leading 26th save of the season in the win on Wednesday night...He had given up six earned runs in his last four appearances prior to that appearance...Lynchburg's all-star closer is now just three saves shy of tying the all-time single-season record in team history...D.J. Carrasco had 29 saves in 2002 to set the record and is the all-time team saves leader with 38...Last night Rodriguez moved ahead of Melqui Torres to claim sole possession of second place... LIKE RIDING A BIKE: RHP Ronald Uviedo went four innings last night to earn his second save of the campaign in two opportunities...Prior to this season 104 of his 116 career appearances were in relief...His save last night was the 30th of his career...In 2006 he led the Venezuelan League in saves with 11...Two season ago he was tied for third in the farm system with 12 saves notched for State College in the New York Penn League...
MIGHTY MERCER: INF Jordy Mercer went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs driven in and a walk last night...He has now hit in nine straight games and is batting .343 (12-for-35) with four doubles, five RBI and six runs scored over that time...Last night was his third straight multi-hit contest and he went 6-for-13 (.462) with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored in the series at Salem...Mercer leads the Hillcats with his 65 RBI and is tied for first in the league with his 34 doubles...
ADDING UP: RHP Nate Adcock earned his third victory in four games (two starts) with Lynchburg since coming to the Pirates system from the Mariners in the Jack Wilson trade...He is now 3-0 with a 3.21 ERA and he has allowed just two earned runs in 10 innings in his two starts with the Hillcats...The Cats are now 3-1 in the four games Adcock and RHP Ronald Uviedo have piggybacked in...
MOTORING B-MO: RHP Bryan Morris tossed six innings on Wednesday night and did not allow an earned run in picking up his fourth win of the season...He has won his last two starts since returning from the Suspended List (2-0, 1.42 ERA)...The former first round draft pick has now essentially thrown three straight quality starts (only non-quality outing was suspended due to rain)...After failing to go six innings in his first seven starts, Morris has gotten through six frames in his last four starts that were not shortened due to weather...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Miguel Socolovich will get the nod in game one...He was acquired by the White Sox in a trade with the Red Sox prior to the start of the 2008 season...Along with pitcher Willy Mota he was sent to Chicago for pitcher David Aardsma...Last season he pitched with full-season Low-A Kannapolis and went 6-6 with a 4.68 ERA in 21 games (18 starts) for the Intimidators...This year he has pitched for Winston-Salem and Double-A Birmingham...He appeared four times in relief for the Barons in August and went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA...With the Dash he has gone 3-1 with a 2.83 ERA and seven saves in 25 games (one start)...His last outing was his first start of the season and he did not allow a run in four innings at Frederick...In four games against Lynchburg, Socolovich has gone 1-1 with a 7.36 ERA...LHP Wander Perez is slated to start game two...He was signed in 2002 out of the Dominican Republic...After spending three season with the Dominican White Sox he pitched for Rookie level Bristol in 2006 and went 1-0 with a 4.22 ERA in 17 games (one start)...In 2007 he pitched at the Rookie level again with Great Falls and had a 1-0 mark with a 3.98 ERA and one save in 28 games...Last season he started the season with full-season Low-A Kannapolis and had no decisions with a 4.73 ERA and one save in 30 games pitched...He was promoted to Winston-Salem where he had a 1-0 record with a 2.70 ERA in 21 relief appearances...This season he has returned to Advanced-A and has gone 2-1 with a 5.17 ERA and one save in 29 games (two starts) with the Dash...Perez has pitched four times against Lynchburg and has no decisions and a 3.38 ERA...
