Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Defensive miscues came early and often for the Pelicans in game two of a four-game series with the Lynchburg Hillcats, and in the end, they spelled defeat.

Lynchburg took advantage of four Pelicans errors on the way to a 7-1 win over Myrtle Beach in front of 4,013 fans at BB&T Coastal Field.

After a solo homer in the top of the first by Jordy Mercer, Lynchburg snapped a 1-1 tie with a three-run third. Eric Fryer, Jose De Los Santos and Chase d'Arnaud reached in order to lead off the inning. De Los Santos got aboard on a possible double-play ground ball to short when Michael Fisher was unable to handle the feed from Randy Gress. That left the door open for Chase d'Arnaud whose slow roller to third forced an errant throw by Pelicans third baseman Donell Linares, allowing both Fryer and De Los Santos to score. D'Arnaud reached second on the error and later scored on a wild pitch. One inning later, following a two-out triple, Alex Presley scored on another Linares throwing error, this time on a Fryer grounder. Pelicans starter Brandon Beachy allowed five runs over five innings, but just one of those tallies was earned. Beachy (2-2) turned in his longest outing of the year in his third consecutive start.

On the other side, Hillcats starter Nate Adcock, recently acquired from the Seattle Mariners as part of the deal that sent former Pittsburgh Pirates All-Star shortstop Jack Wilson to Seattle, went five innings and allowed one run on six hits in his first Carolina League start. Adcock (2-0) surrendered Myrtle Beach's only run on an RBI single by Benji Johnson in the second. Ronald Uviedo (1) earned the save with four innings of scoreless relief.

The Pelicans threw three relievers following Beachy with Michael Broadway again impressing with two innings of scoreless, one-hit relief. Lynchburg got two runs on a Jared Keel homer off Rudy Darrow in the eighth.

Saturday's third game of this four-game set is slated for 7:05. Pelicans southpaw Richard Sullivan (2-9, 4.16) will square off against against Lynchburg's Rudy Owens (0-0, 0.00) Tickets for all Pelicans home games are available at the BB&T Coastal Field box office, by calling (843)918-6000 or by visiting the Tickets page at MyrtleBeachPelicans.com.
