Potomac Nationals News Release

WOODBRIDGE, Va- With both teams sporting virtually identical records coming into the ballgame, the Potomac Nationals and Wilmington Blue Rocks dueled at Pfitzner Stadium for the second consecutive night. It was a different day but a similar result for the P-Nats as the streaking Blue Rocks pounded the home team by the score of 8-1 on Friday night.

Adam Carr got the nod on the hill for the P-Nats and the converted reliever once against pitched admirably out of the starting role. The former closer tossed a career-high 6 1/3 innings allowing four runs on eight hits, but a majority of those tallies came late in the ballgame. Unfortunately for Carr (1-3), the Potomac offense again fell silent at the hands of the Blue Rocks pitching staff.

After mustering just five hits in last night's 5-1 defeat, the Nationals only notched two hits in game two of their four-game series with Wilmington. The Blue Rocks struck first in this contest plating single runs in the second and third innings.

Clint Robinson began a big night for the man they call the Alabama Hammer by hitting his ninth home run of the season just over the outstretched glove of rightfielder Michael Burgess to put the Rocks on the board. Robinson launched his tenth round-tripper of the season leading off the eighth inning as well.

With the score 2-0, the Nats would start to crawl back into this contest in the bottom of the fifth frame. Tim Pahuta took a 1-0 pitch from Blue Rock starter Eduardo Paulino deep over the right-field wall to slash the Blue Crew's lead in half at 2-1. For Pahuta, it was his sixth home run of the season and gave the P-Nats some confidence to get back in this series and put some distance between themselves and Wilmington.

But Paulino (6-6) enjoyed his best start of the season for the Blue Rocks, leading the charge as Wilmington extended their winning streak to a franchise-record 12 games. The righty went 6 2/3 innings allowing just the lone run on just two hits while striking out five.

Boomer Whiting did manage to steal his franchise-single-season record 46th base of the year after reaching on a walk, but besides Pahuta's long ball, the P-Nats did not have a runner advance past second base in the contest.

With Wilmington now on top of the Northern Division, the P-Nats will look to rebound Saturday night against the Blue Rocks. Saturday's night's contest will bring the Final Scout Night of the year to Pfitzner Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:35 ET, so come early to watch the P-Nats as the pennant race heats up with game three between the top two teams in the Northern Division. Once the final out is recorded, stick around to catch the spectacular fireworks extravaganza! After the bombs have finished bursting in air, kids can run the bases courtesy of Glory Days Grill. Once the kids have finished up on the basepaths, all scouts in attendance are invited to come down to the field and sleep over on the outfield grass! A movie will be played on the big screen out in left field and in the morning, all scouts who stayed the night will receive a commemorative Potomac Nationals Scout Night patch!
