Brandon, MB. - The Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings have announced that 20-year old defenceman Schael Higson has been designated for assignment.

A Grande Prairie, Alberta product, Higson has spent the past three seasons with the Wheat Kings and leaves Brandon having scored three goals and 17 points in 20 games this season.

A 5-year WHL veteran, who began his junior career as a Saskatoon Blade in 2014, Higson has 79 points, including eighteen goals in 282 career games.

Higson expects to be moved before next week's WHL Trade Deadline.

Of the 23 players, only one - forward Linden McCorrister - occupies an overage spot on the roster. WHL clubs are permitted to carry a maximum of three 20-year olds.

The WHL Trade Deadline is Thursday, January 10th.

The Wheat Kings return to action Friday night - Family Skate Night - when they host the Seattle Thunderbirds at 7:30pm.
