Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
SUGAR LAND, TX - For a second consecutive night, the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (5-11) traded early runs with the Las Vegas Aviators (7-10) in a 10-5 defeat on Wednesday night at Constellation Field.
The Aviators struck for three runs in the top of the first inning on four hits including three straight RBI knocks by Cody Thomas, Kevin Cron and Trenton Brooks against Space Cowboys RHP Jayden Murray (L, 1-2), giving Las Vegas a 3-0 lead. Murray bounced back with a scoreless second in which he struck out two.
Sugar Land had a response in the bottom of the second inning. Grae Kessinger earned a two-out walk and raced in to score on a double to the left-field gap by Luke Berryhill, making it 3-1 Las Vegas. Dixon Machado then worked a free pass to put the tying run on base and Pedro León delivered both runners with a triple to deep center field, drawing the Space Cowboys level at 3-3.
The seesaw continued in the top of the third inning as Las Vegas plated three more on four hits, including a two-RBI single from Jonah Bride to push the Aviators ahead 6-3. In the last of the third, Sugar Land managed to get one back on two walks and a throwing error by Tyler Soderstrom, moving the Space Cowboys within a pair at 6-4.
Las Vegas continued the scoring, adding on one in the fourth, but Sugar Land matched the single tally in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run by Machado, his second of the year, staying within two at 7-5. However, the Aviators pushed across two more in the sixth and one more in the seventh to secure the victory.
Trailing 2-0 in the series, Sugar Land continues their six-game tilt with the Aviators on Thursday night at 6:35 pm. RHP Brandon Bielak (0-1, 5.06) is slated to start for the Space Cowboys against Las Vegas RHP Coin Peluse (0-0, 6.75). The game can be heard on ESPN 92.5 FM or online here and seen on MiLB.TV.
