PCL Salt Lake Bees

Reno Takes Pitchers Duel

April 20, 2023 - Pacific Coast League (PCL)
Salt Lake Bees News Release

The Salt Lake Bees (8-10) lost 3-1 in the third of their six-game series at Smith's Ballpark against the Reno Aces (8-9).

Defense dominated the affair as both starting pitchers, Salt Lake's Kenny Rosenberg and Reno's Brandon Pfaadt, had their best stuff on the mound. The game was scoreless through six innings, as Reno pitchers produced a quality start for the third consecutive game, until the Aces broke the tie with a single run in the 7th inning. Salt Lake battled back in the 8th with a run on a single by shortstop David Fletcher in his season debut with the Bees. The game entered the 9th inning headed for extra until the Aces spoiled the fun by scoring two runs on RBIs by Diego Castillo and Ali Sanchez. Salt Lake showed signs of a comeback with runners on first and second in the bottom of the 9th but would end the game without either runner crossing home plate. Fletcher and Pfaadt were the stars of the game as Fletcher blasted a triple to the wall and knocked in the game-tying RBI while Pfaadt tallied his third quality start in his last four opportunities on the mound against Salt Lake.

The loss was the third straight against Reno and sixth consecutive overall for the Bees who are now 7th place in the Pacific Coast League. Salt Lake will look to bounce back on Friday for Abejas Night (Latinx Cultural Appreciation) as veteran righty Cesar Valdez faces off against Aces LHP Tyler Gilbert on the mound.
