MOOSIC, PA - Aaron Hicks had three hits and four RBI, Danny Ortiz homered and scored three runs, and more solid performances from the Rochester bullpen helped the Red Wings to a 6-4 win over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders Monday night at PNC Field.

The RailRiders had veteran Kyle Davies as their scheduled starter, but Davies was called up to the Yankees on Sunday. That prompted a promotion for Class A left-hander Conner Kendrick to take Davies' turn against the Wings. Kendrick, starting his third pro season, had not pitched above Class A prior to Monday's start for the RailRiders.

Kendrick gave up a double to Hicks to open the game, but a diving catch by right fielder Ramon Flores took away an RBI hit from Brock Peterson and kept the Wings off the scoreboard.

Red Wings starter Mark Hamburger set down the first two hitters he faced, but the RailRiders put together a single, walk and an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead.

The Wings took advantage of wildness - and perhaps nervousness - from Kendrick in the second inning, waiting out three walks to load the bases with two out. A single by Hicks up the middle, on a full count pitch, drove in two runs and the Wings took the lead 2-1.

Hamburger gave up a triple to start the Scranton half of the third inning, but retired the next three batters to strand the runner and keep the Wings' lead intact.

Three straight hits to open the fourth inning spelled the end to Kendrick's night on the mound. Ortiz singled, Jose Martinez followed with a double, and James Beresford's RBI single moved the Wings ahead 3-1. Hicks drilled a triple to right-center that brought home two more runs and a 5-1 lead - giving Hicks a double, single, and triple in his first three at-bats.

The RailRiders picked up a run with two outs in the fourth, cutting the lead to 5-2 Rochester. But Ortiz countered with a long, two-out home run to right field in the top of the fifth to make it 6-2.

Scranton put together a rally in their half of the fifth, scoring two runs with two outs and chasing Hamburger from the game. A.J. Achter relieved Hamburger and issued a walk to load the bases, then struck out Jonathan Galvez to end the rally.

Hamburger's line: 4 2/3 innings pitched, nine hits, four earned runs and two walks to go with six strikeouts. He threw 99 pitches, 64 for strikes.

The Red Wings' relievers - Achter (win, 1-0), Caleb Thielbar, Ryan Pressly, and Michael Tonkin (second save) - combined for 4 1/3 scoreless relief innings, giving the Wings' bullpen 12 2/3 scoreless innings to start the season.

Hicks struck out swinging in the sixth and ninth innings, falling a home run shy of the cycle; Michael Restovich was the last Red Wing to hit for the cycle, doing it in single-double-triple-home run order on May 8, 2004 at Frontier Field against Durham.
