International League Names Players of the Week
Published on April 13, 2015 under International League (IL1) News Release
The International League announced today that Toledo third baseman Jefry Marte and Durham pitcher Dylan Floro have been named the League's first Batter and Pitcher of the Week for the 2015 season, covering the period from April 9-12.  Marte becomes the first Mud Hens player to be so honored since Ezequiel Carrera (June 30-July 6, 2014), while Floro follows the most recent winner from the Bulls, Mike Fontenot (Aug. 11-17, 2014).
JEFRY MARTE, Toledo Mud Hens  IL BATTER OF THE WEEK
Only one player in the International League drove in more than five runs over the first four days of the season. In fact, Toledo's Jefry Marte had six RBI alone in his Triple-A debut on Thursday to go along with three hits in a 13-0 Opening Day victory over Louisville.  In his first week with the Mud Hens, Marte hit .308 and scored three runs while helping Toledo to a 3-1 record out of the gate and an early lead in the IL West Division.
24-year-old Jefry Marte is in his eighth season as a professional player. He was signed by the Mets in 2007, and after five Minor League seasons he was dealt to Oakland.  Marte spent the majority of the last two seasons with Double-A Midland, hitting .259 with 10 HR and 53 RBI in 107 games in 2014 before signing with Detroit last November as a free agent. Marte is a native of La Romana, Dominican Republic.
DYLAN FLORO, Durham Bulls IL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Thursday also marked the Triple-A debut of Bulls right-hander Dylan Floro, who was given the Opening Day nod against Gwinnett.  He responded by allowing just one baserunner over 6.0 innings as Durham downed the Braves 1-0.  Floro surrendered just one hit and recorded one strikeout without a walk to pick up his first Triple-A victory.  Just 16 of the 61 pitches thrown by Floro were balls. The shutout performance by Floro and relievers Brandon Gomes and Jose Dominguez was needed, as Gwinnett pitchers held the Bulls to one run on five hits.
24-year-old Dylan Floro was selected by Tampa Bay in the 13th round of the 2012 draft. He first reached the Double-A level last season, posting a 11-13 record with a 3.48 ERA in 28 starts for Montgomery.  Floro is a native of Merced, California.
