Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Fresh off 29 innings in just under 24 hours, the IronPigs (1-3) play Game 1 of a three-game series against the Syracuse Chiefs (2-2), the reigning IL North Champions... With a bizarre* 7-6 win in 16 innings yesterday, the Pigs earned their first victory of 2015 to salvage the finale of a four-game series against Pawtucket and snapped a five-game losing streak going back to last season... The Chiefs -- Washington's top affiliate -- opened with a four-game series split at Scranton/WB. After finishing the 2014 regular season with the best record in the IL (81-62), the Chiefs were swept in three games in Round 1 of the Governors' Cup Playoffs by the Wild Card, Pawtucket.
RHP Paul Clemens (6-3, 4.08 in AAA) will start for LHV against RHP Bruce Billings (5-5, 5.06 in SWB in '14).
Tonight is Charlie Manuel Bobblehead Doll Night, presented by St. Luke's University Health Network... First Pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
* Yesterday's 16-inning win over the Paw Sox may have been the craziest game in franchise history... In a nutshell, the winning pitcher, Russ Canzler, was the starting first baseman and also recorded the game-winning RBI (on a walk-off walk, of all things). The losing pitcher, Quintin Berry, was the starting center fielder who had just given Pawtucket the lead with a go-ahead RBI single in the top of the 16th inning. Berry blew the save and the victory for starting shortstop Jeff Bianchi, who scored a go-ahead run in the top of the 13th inning before he took the mound and blew a save in the bottom of the 13th - and followed up by tossing a pair of scoreless innings.
- The Pigs erased two deficits in extra innings (5-4 in 13th; 6-5 in 16th) after blowing a 4-3 lead in the 9th (Montz HR off Knigge).
- The 16-inning game tied the LHV all-time record for longest game, in terms of innings (5/18/10 vs. LOU; 7/5/14 @ ROC).
- Ironically, the last time LHV pitched a position player was 8/29/13 @ SWB (Fields) -- the last time Adam Morgan pitched prior to Sunday.
