Hershey Out-Guns Rats 8-2

HERSHEY, PA-Jonathan Paiement's second goal of the night leveled the score at 2-2 early in the second period, but the Hershey Bears scored the game's next six goals to earn an 8-2 victory over the Albany River Rats on Friday night at the Giant Center.

The team's combined for 10 fighting majors and 124 penalty minutes, as Albany saw it's four-game winning streak and eight-game point streak come to a close. Chris Bourque and Keith Aucoin each scored two goals for the Bears, while Alexandre Giroux and Boyd Kane netted a goal and an assist each to lead Hershey to its 24th straight home win.

Bourque drew first blood for the Bears at 3:18 of the opening period with a sharp angle wrist shot to the top shelf. Paiement's then put the River Rats on the board at 15:01 on a rising one-time blast from the point. Andrew Gordon's 32nd goal of the season gave the Bears a 2-1 lead with just 42 seconds remaining in the first frame.

Braden Holtby took over in goal for Michael Neuvirth to start the second period, and Paiement's second marker of the night knotted the contest at 4:42 on the power play. Aucoin reclaimed Hershey's lead for good less than one minute later, batting Giroux's feed out of mid-air at 5:30, and Michael Dubuc gave the Bears a two-goal cushion midway through the frame.

Kane's 22nd goal of the season made it 5-2 Bears at 2:10 of the third period and Giroux notched his 37th of the year at 10:16. Aucoin then added his second tally of the game and 34th of the season on a breakaway at 15:50 and Ashton Rome closed out the score-sheet with 22 seconds remaining.

Holtby earned the win, stopping 13-of-14 shots faced in 40 minutes of relief work as the Bears improved to 52-13-0-3 this season. Neuvirth stopped 4-of-5 shots faced in the opening 20 minutes of action for Hershey. River Rats goalie Mike Morrison made 21 saves on 29 shots and took the loss, as Albany fell to 38-25-3-5 this year. The Bears out-shot the River Rats 29-19 in the game and both sides went 1-for-5 on the power play.

Albany plays a home-and-home series this weekend against the Senators. Binghamton hosts the first game on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. and Albany hosts game two at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.
