Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 18th year in the American Hockey League, announced that they have assigned defensemen Rob Kwiet and Scott Fletcher to the ECHL's Reading Royals. With the moves, the P-Bruins have 25 players on their roster, including 15 forwards, eight defensemen and two goaltenders.
Kwiet, 21, returns to Reading for the third time this season, where he has tallied three assists in 11 games for the Royals. The rookie has spent the majority of the season in Providence, scoring one goal in 40 contests. Kwiet appeared in 24 games for Providence since his last recall on January 1, adding his first and only pro goal that night at the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
Last season, Kwiet won a Memorial Cup championship with the Windsor Spitfires, recording personal-highs with 12 goals, 55 assists and 67 points in 66 regular season games before adding 15 points (5g, 10a) in 20 games during the club's lengthy playoff run. He finished sixth overall among Ontario Hockey League blue-liners in scoring during the regular season. In four junior seasons between Windsor, the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors and Toronto St. Michael's Majors, Kwiet totaled 145 points (29g, 116a) and 310 penalty minutes in 250 regular season games. The defenseman has previously enjoyed pro experience with the International Hockey League's Muskegon Fury in 2007-08, going scoreless in seven regular season games and four playoff contests. He signed an AHL contract with Providence on July 13, 2009.
Fletcher, 22, was recalled to Providence on March 6 and appeared in three games during his latest AHL stint. The rookie defenseman has suited up for 14 P-Bruins games on the year, compiling 32 PIM. In 24 contests with Reading, Fletcher has recorded two goals, two assists, 67 PIM and a plus-three rating.
Prior to turning pro, Fletcher enjoyed five seasons of junior hockey in the OHL, splitting time between the Plymouth Whalers, Niagara IceDogs, Mississauga IceDogs and Saginaw Spirit. In juniors, the undrafted native of Haslett, Michigan, appeared in 236 regular season games with 15 points (2g, 13a) and 632 PIM. Fletcher also suited up for 25 playoff contests, going scoreless with 48 PIM. He signed an AHL contract with Providence on August 11, 2009.
