LOWELL, Mass. - Despite firing a season-high 48 shots on net, the Lowell Devils fell to the Providence Bruins, 4-2, on Friday as they opened a seven-game homestand at the Tsongas Center. Bruins defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk scored twice for his first multi-goal game of the season and also helped Providence end a four-game winless streak against the Devils.

Skating on the game's first power play, Providence went ahead at 3:55 of the opening period when Bodnarchuk pinched down from the point to pound home the rebound from Andy Wozniewski's slapshot.

The Bruins built a 2-0 lead five minutes later on a 3-on-2 rush as Jordan Knackstedt took a touch pass at far circle and beat Jeff Frazee with a one-timer to the glove side.

Midway through the second period, Lowell cut the Bruins' lead in half after Kory Nagy circled off the sidewall and sent a shot toward the crease that Tim Sestito dug out and dumped in for his 17th of the year.

Mikko Lehtonen helped Providence re-establish its two-goal lead at 13:07 as he got behind the defense and went top right corner on the breakaway.

Bodnarchuk put the Bruins up, 4-1, at 2:48 of third when he was able to accept a pass at the blueline and walk to down the left wing before drilling a wrist shot past Frazee.

Lowell added one more blemish to Dany Sabourin's 46-save night when Michael Swift scored with less than eight minutes remaining in regulation.
