
Heponiemi and Viveiros Honoured with Pair of WHL Awards

Swift Current, SK - The Swift Current Broncos are pleased to announce that forward Aleksi Heponiemi and Head Coach Manny Viveiros were both recognized at the WHL Awards Luncheon in Red Deer, AB on Wednesday.
Aleksi Heponiemi - Brad Hornung Trophy - WHL Most Sportsmanlike Player of the Year
Swift Current's Aleksi Heponiemi was named as the Western Hockey League's Most Sportsmanlike Player for the 2017-18 season and was awarded the Brad Hornung Trophy.
A product of Tampere, Finland, Heponiemi wrapped up a terrific campaign in which the 18-year old led all WHL skaters in assists with 90. Heponiemi finished third overall in league scoring with 118 points (28g-90a) while only registering 28 penalty minutes in 57 games played.
The 5'10, 141lb winger completed his second full season in Swift Current after being selected by the Broncos in the first round, 10th overall in the 2016 CHL Import Draft. In 129 regular career regular season contests, Heponiemi has gathered 204 points (56g-148a) to go along with a plus-57 rating and 46 penalty minutes.
Heponiemi becomes the fourth Swift Current Bronco to win this award, joining Tyler Steenbergen (2016-17), Ian White (2001-02) and Rick Girard (1992-93).
Manny Viveiros - Dunc McCallum Trophy - WHL Coach of the Year
Swift Current Broncos Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Manny Viveiros was named the Western Hockey League's Coach of the Year for the 2017-18 season and was awarded the Dunc McCallum Trophy.
In his second season behind the bench, Viveiros led the Broncos to an impressive record of 48-17-5-2, good enough to finish second in the WHL's overall regular season standings.
Under the direction of Viveiros, the Broncos were recognized as one of the top teams in the CHL throughout the season, finishing fourth in the CHL Top 10 rankings and maintaining that rank for the majority of the 2017-18 season.
Furthermore, the St. Albert, AB product also served as an assistant coach for Team WHL at the 2017 CIBC Canada Russia Series in November.
Viveiros is the third Broncos coach in franchise history to claim this award, joining Todd McLellan (1999-00) and Stan Dunn (1973-74).
