Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
(Edmonton, AB) - The Western Hockey League (WHL) has announced that the Edmonton Oil Kings have been named the recipient of the 2017-18 WHL Marketing/Business Award at the 2018 WHL Awards in Red Deer, AB.
The Marketing/Business Award is voted on by the WHL's General Managers and Head Coaches through several business criteria including ticket sales, game night promotions, community involvement, traditional and digital media coverage, and in-game presentation.
"The Edmonton Oil Kings are extremely honoured to be recognized by the WHL as the recipient of this year's WHL Marketing/Business Award," said Kevin Radomski, Director of Business Operations for the Edmonton Oil Kings. "This recognition wouldn't be possible without the hard work and dedication of all our staff and the tremendous support we receive from such a passionate fan base in Edmonton. Our fans have supported all of our community initiatives this season in a big way from our Star Wars Night jersey auction in support of Sorrentino's Compassion House to our very first sock drive that saw our fans bring in over 3,000 pairs of socks for the Mustard Seed here in Edmonton. It's that passion that makes the acceptance of this award possible."
The Edmonton Oil Kings delivered another season of new marketing initiatives and achievements during the 2017-18 season, including top attendance in the WHL and third in attendance in the CHL. The Oil Kings are proud to once again lead the entire League in attendance for the second year in a row, averaging 8,166 fans per game to date. Every Oil Kings game at Rogers Place delivers cutting edge game presentation that elevates the fan experience for the passionate and dedicated fan base in Edmonton.
Some of the team's top marketing and business achievements of the season include investing more than $225,000 into the community through charitable initiatives, selling a total of 293,958 tickets this season, breaking the Oil Kings Teddy Bear Toss record raising more than $20,000 and collecting 14,122 bears, and gaining national media coverage on Coach's Corner, Hockey Night in Canada and Sportsnet's Wednesday Night Hockey broadcast.
The Oil Kings are honoured to have been selected as the recipient for this year's WHL Marketing/Business Award and hope to continue to leave a lasting footprint in the community and in business for seasons to come.
