VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Norfolk Admirals announced today that the club has signed defenseman Burke Henry to an AHL standard players contract. In keeping with team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Henry, who had been signed to a professional tryout agreement on October 9, 2002, has skated in the Admirals' five contests of 2002-03, posting five points (one goal, four assists) to lead all defensemen in scoring and tie him for third on the team in points production with Steve McCarthy (0+5=5). Henry was originally drafted by the New York Rangers in the third round (73rd overall) of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. A season later, he registered professional career highs in games played (80), goals (eight), assists (30), points (38) and penalty minutes (133) with Hartford. He was later traded to Calgary for Chris St. Croix on June 23, 2001, and spent last year with the Saint John Flames (AHL), posting 17 assists (17 points) in 58 contests.

The Admirals are on the road this weekend, with contests slated in Philadelphia on October 25, in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on October 26 and in Hershey on October 27. Norfolk returns to Scope for its next home game on Wednesday, October 20, as the team hosts the Cleveland Barons (San Jose Sharks).
