Aliant Telecom Flames Skills Camps Back

Saint John, NB – The Saint John Flames and Aliant Telecom in cooperation with the Canadian Hockey Association's Atlantic Centre of Excellence today kicked-off the 2002-03 Aliant Telecom Flames Skills Camps program. The program is an on-ice skill development opportunity aimed at Atom and Pee-Wee aged recreational hockey players in Southern New Brunswick.

The program consists of ten, one-hour skill development sessions, conducted by coaches from the ACOE along with players from the Saint John Flames, to be held throughout Southern New Brunswick during the season.

"We look forward to participating in this season's skills camps," said Flames Head Coach Jim Playfair. "The Skills Development Camps last season allowed players to have fun with the kids while demonstrating and working on some of the basic skills behind the game.

The first two Skills Camp sessions of the season are scheduled for Monday, October 28th in St. Stephen and Sussex. The eight remaining Skills Camps sessions will be spread over the balance of the Flames season.

Aliant Telecom Flames Skills Camps - Monday, October 28, 2002 1. St. Stephen - Border Arena, St. Stephen (7:35 – 8:35 p.m.) 2. Sussex - 8th Hussars Sports Centre, Sussex (6:45 – 7:45 p.m.)

Each camp will be limited to 36 participants - 30 selected randomly for each camp by the participating minor hockey association and 6 selected randomly from entries received through the Flames website. All Atom and Pee-Wee aged hockey players interested in attending a camp can log on to the Flames website at www.sjflames.com and submit an application. There is no application or participation fee involved with the Aliant Telecom Flames Skills Camps.

Participating in this season's program are the minor hockey associations of Saint John, Lancaster, Sussex, St. Stephen, St. Andrews, Fundy, Hampton and the Kennebecasis Valley.

The Flames return to action this weekend as they host the Hamilton Bulldogs in back-to-back games on Friday, October 25 and on K-100 Family & CAA Team Calendar Night, Saturday, October 26. Tickets for these games and all Flames October and November home games are currently available at the Harbour Station Box Office, the Imperial Theatre Box Office, selected Irving locations (Main Street West, Champlain Heights, Millidgeville, Marr Road, Hampton and Grand Bay), and Charge-by-Phone at 657-1234 or 1-800-267-2800.

The 2002-03 season marks the Saint John Flames' tenth as a member of the AHL and as the primary development organization of the National Hockey League's Calgary Flames.
